Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy outlines the nature, purpose and security of personal information collected from clients in the provision of this counselling service owned and provided by Kristine Piper. It is guided by the Australian Privacy Principles, Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth), and Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (NSW). The Privacy Policy is displayed on the practice website (kpcounselling.com.au/privacy) and is available as a PDF file on request.

 

This practice collects information about you that is reasonably necessary for, or directly related to the primary purpose of providing counselling services. It is your choice what information you provide, however if you choose not to provide some information it may affect the counselling care this service can provide to you.

Your information will be used for:

  1. The administrative purposes of running the practice including billing;

  2. Communications regarding the service;

  3. Assessment and therapy.

 

The Counsellor keeps notes of the therapy session which will be kept confidential and secure, except where:

  1. It is subpoenaed by a court;

  2. Failure to disclose information would place you or someone else at serious or imminent risk.

 

It is sometimes helpful for the Counsellor to communicate with others while helping you the client achieve your therapy goals. This will only be done in discussion with you and with your signed consent to disclose.

You have the right to request access to your records at any time. If access is denied (for example, out of concern for your wellbeing), you will be informed of the reasons for this.

Client information is encrypted and stored securely in an Australian data facility. While digital privacy cannot be guaranteed 100%, the online server used by this practice meets or exceeds all regulations of the Australian Privacy Principles.

This practice does not disclose your information to overseas recipients.

If you believe the Counsellor has acted unethically, you can lodge a complaint with PACFA or the ACA.
